Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes

Introduction

Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes bring together juicy ground beef, sautéed peppers, onions, and mushrooms with melty provolone cheese—all served on a toasted bun. It’s a quick weeknight meal that’s hearty, flavorful, and family-friendly.

Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch + 2 tablespoons water (slurry)
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 4–6 sandwich buns, toasted
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook vegetables: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms; cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute more. Remove veggies from the pan and set aside.
  2. Brown beef: In the same skillet, cook ground beef until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula. Drain excess fat.
  3. Combine: Add cooked vegetables back to the skillet with the beef. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, and ketchup.
  4. Thicken: Mix cornstarch slurry and stir into the skillet. Simmer for 2–3 minutes until the mixture thickens.
  5. Add cheese: Lay provolone slices over the meat mixture, cover with a lid, and let the cheese melt. Stir gently to combine.
  6. Serve: Spoon the cheesy beef mixture onto toasted buns and enjoy warm.

Tips & Variations

  • Use ground chicken or turkey for a lighter version.
  • Swap provolone for mozzarella or white American cheese.
  • Add a dash of hot sauce for a spicy kick.
  • For extra crispness, toast buns with a light butter spread before serving.

Enjoy !!
