Introduction
Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes bring together juicy ground beef, sautéed peppers, onions, and mushrooms with melty provolone cheese—all served on a toasted bun. It’s a quick weeknight meal that’s hearty, flavorful, and family-friendly.
Ingredients (Serves 4–6)
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch + 2 tablespoons water (slurry)
- 6 slices provolone cheese
- 4–6 sandwich buns, toasted
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Cook vegetables: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms; cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute more. Remove veggies from the pan and set aside.
- Brown beef: In the same skillet, cook ground beef until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula. Drain excess fat.
- Combine: Add cooked vegetables back to the skillet with the beef. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, and ketchup.
- Thicken: Mix cornstarch slurry and stir into the skillet. Simmer for 2–3 minutes until the mixture thickens.
- Add cheese: Lay provolone slices over the meat mixture, cover with a lid, and let the cheese melt. Stir gently to combine.
- Serve: Spoon the cheesy beef mixture onto toasted buns and enjoy warm.
Tips & Variations
- Use ground chicken or turkey for a lighter version.
- Swap provolone for mozzarella or white American cheese.
- Add a dash of hot sauce for a spicy kick.
- For extra crispness, toast buns with a light butter spread before serving.
Enjoy !!
