Loco Moco is a beloved Hawaiian comfort food that layers white rice, a juicy hamburger patty, rich brown gravy, and a perfectly fried egg. It’s simple, satisfying, and packed with flavor—ideal for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
Ingredients:
For the Patties:
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tbsp oil, for cooking
For the Gravy:
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups beef broth
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper, to taste
For Serving:
- 2–4 cups cooked white rice
- 2–4 eggs
- Chopped green onions (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
- Make the Patties:
Mix ground beef, chopped onion, soy sauce, salt, and pepper. Form into 2–4 patties. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook patties 4–5 minutes per side, or until fully cooked. Set aside. - Make the Gravy:
In the same pan, melt butter and stir in flour to make a roux. Cook for 1 minute, then whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire. Simmer until thickened. Season to taste. - Fry the Eggs:
In a separate pan, fry eggs sunny-side up or to your liking. - Assemble:
Place a scoop of rice on each plate, top with a beef patty, pour over gravy, and crown with a fried egg. Garnish with green onions if desired. - Serve:
