Each bite has a melt-in-your-mouth buttery flavor, and the glaze gives them that irresistible, slightly crisp coating. They’re perfect for holidays, parties, or anytime you want a cookie that truly impresses.
Ingredients (Makes about 24 cookies)
For the cookies:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup buttermilk
For the glaze:
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons water
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Heat to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Make cookie dough: In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with buttermilk, until combined.
- Shape & bake: Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto baking sheets. Bake 10–12 minutes, or until edges are set and tops are slightly golden. Cool slightly.
- Prepare glaze: In a small saucepan, melt butter. Stir in sugar and water, cooking just until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
- Glaze cookies: While cookies are still warm, brush glaze generously over tops. Let glaze soak in and set before serving.
Tips & Variations
- Add a pinch of nutmeg or cinnamon to the dough for a warm spice flavor.
- Drizzle with powdered sugar glaze for extra sweetness.
- Store cookies in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
- These cookies taste even better the next day after the glaze soaks in!
