Heirloom Tomato Sandwich

Introduction

Sometimes the simplest recipes are the most satisfying. A heirloom tomato sandwich celebrates the peak of summer produce — juicy, colorful tomatoes paired with creamy spread and soft bread. It’s light, refreshing, and full of garden-fresh flavor, making it the perfect lunch or quick snack.

Ingredients (Serves 2)

  • 2–3 ripe heirloom tomatoes, thickly sliced
  • 4 slices rustic bread (sourdough, ciabatta, or whole grain)
  • 2–3 tablespoons mayonnaise (or cream cheese for a richer taste)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional, for brushing bread)
  • Fresh basil leaves (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare bread: Lightly toast bread slices for extra crunch, or leave them soft if preferred. Brush with olive oil if toasting.
  2. Spread: Generously spread mayonnaise (or cream cheese) on one side of each slice.
  3. Assemble: Layer thick slices of heirloom tomatoes on top. Add fresh basil leaves if using.
  4. Season: Sprinkle with salt and freshly cracked black pepper to bring out the tomatoes’ natural sweetness.
  5. Serve: Press sandwich together, slice in half, and enjoy immediately.

Tips & Variations

  • Swap mayo for pesto to add a herby kick.
  • Use avocado slices for extra creaminess.
  • Add a layer of fresh mozzarella for a caprese-style version.
  • Drizzle with a touch of balsamic glaze for sweet tanginess.

Enjoy !!
