Georgia’s Loaded Baked Beans

Introduction

Georgia’s Loaded Baked Beans take classic baked beans to the next level by adding layers of smoky bacon, savory ground beef, and a sweet-and-tangy sauce. Perfect for barbecues, potlucks, or family gatherings, this dish is a crowd-pleasing side that eats like a main.


Ingredients (Serves 8–10)

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 lb (450 g) bacon, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cans (28 oz each) baked beans
  • ½ cup barbecue sauce
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook bacon: In a large skillet, cook chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove bacon and drain on paper towels, leaving about 2 tablespoons of bacon fat in the pan.
  2. Brown beef & onion: Add ground beef and onion to the skillet. Cook until beef is browned and onion is softened. Drain excess grease.
  3. Mix beans & sauce: In a large baking dish, combine baked beans, barbecue sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, cooked ground beef mixture, and half of the bacon. Mix well.
  4. Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes until bubbly and slightly thickened.
  5. Finish with bacon: Sprinkle remaining bacon over the top before serving.

Tips & Variations

  • Use spicy barbecue sauce for extra heat.
  • Add diced bell peppers or jalapeños for a veggie boost.
  • Cook in a slow cooker on low for 4–5 hours for hands-off prep.
  • Serve as a side dish for grilled meats or as a main dish with cornbread.
