Introduction
Butter Swim Biscuits are the ultimate comfort food. Unlike traditional biscuits that require cutting in butter, this recipe is wonderfully simple — the dough is mixed together, poured into a butter-filled dish, and baked until fluffy inside and crisp on the outside. They’re perfect with breakfast, soups, or as a side for hearty dinners.
Ingredients (Makes 9 biscuits)
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1 stick (½ cup) unsalted butter, melted
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Set oven to 450°F (230°C). Pour melted butter into an 8×8-inch or 9×9-inch baking dish.
- Make biscuit dough: In a large bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Stir in buttermilk until just combined — the dough will be sticky.
- Add to pan: Pour dough directly over the melted butter in the baking dish. Spread evenly, letting butter pool around the edges.
- Cut before baking: Using a spatula or knife, cut the dough into 9 equal squares (this helps with serving later).
- Bake: Place in oven and bake 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
- Serve: Let cool slightly, then cut along the pre-made lines and enjoy warm.
Tips & Variations
- Use garlic powder and shredded cheddar for cheesy garlic biscuits.
- Swap buttermilk for milk + 1 tablespoon lemon juice if you don’t have buttermilk.
- Add a sprinkle of fresh herbs (like rosemary or parsley) for a savory twist.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the oven for best texture.
Enjoy !!
