Introduction:
Southern Fried Salmon Patties are a comforting, down-home classic made with simple pantry ingredients. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, they’re perfect served with grits, greens, or a dollop of creamy sauce for a satisfying Southern meal.
Ingredients:
- 1 (14.75 oz / 418g) can pink salmon, drained and flaked (bones optional)
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/4 cup cornmeal
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp mayonnaise or sour cream (optional, for extra moisture)
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 2–3 tbsp oil (vegetable or canola) for frying
Instructions:
- Mix Ingredients:
In a mixing bowl, combine the salmon (including skin and bones if preferred), egg, onion, cornmeal, flour, mayonnaise or sour cream (if using), garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well to form a moist but shapeable mixture. - Form Patties:
Shape the mixture into 6–8 small patties, about 1/2 inch thick. - Fry:
Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry patties in batches for 3–4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. - Drain & Serve:
Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with hot sauce, tartar sauce, or a squeeze of lemon.
