Southern Pea Salad

Ingredients:

  • 1 (16 oz) bag frozen sweet peas, thawed
  • 1 cup cubed ham
  • 1/2 cup crumbled cooked bacon
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for a light kick)

Instructions:

  1. Thaw Peas:
    • Place peas in a microwave-safe bowl and heat for 1–2 minutes, just until thawed. Do not overheat — peas should be room temperature, not hot.
  2. Combine Ingredients:
    • In a large bowl, mix thawed peas with ham, bacon, and shredded cheddar.
  3. Make the Dressing:
    • In a separate small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sour cream, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne (if using).
  4. Mix It All:
    • Pour the dressing over the pea mixture and stir until evenly coated.
  5. Chill:
    • Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to let the flavors meld.
  6. Serve Cold:
    • Perfect for potlucks, cookouts, or as a hearty side dish for weeknight dinners.
