Southern Pea Salad
Ingredients:
- 1 (16 oz) bag frozen sweet peas, thawed
- 1 cup cubed ham
- 1/2 cup crumbled cooked bacon
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for a light kick)
Instructions:
- Thaw Peas:
- Place peas in a microwave-safe bowl and heat for 1–2 minutes, just until thawed. Do not overheat — peas should be room temperature, not hot.
- Combine Ingredients:
- In a large bowl, mix thawed peas with ham, bacon, and shredded cheddar.
- Make the Dressing:
- In a separate small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sour cream, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne (if using).
- Mix It All:
- Pour the dressing over the pea mixture and stir until evenly coated.
- Chill:
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to let the flavors meld.
- Serve Cold:
- Perfect for potlucks, cookouts, or as a hearty side dish for weeknight dinners.
